The members of the Stefou family grew up on the shores of the Mesolongi-Aitolik lagoon and learned the art of roe hunting from traditional fishermen. For decades, Stefou roe, based on a traditional home-made recipe, was known in a small local circle that appreciated and enjoyed it as a tasty and nutritious daily food and as a valuable holiday treat.
In 2008, he and his children and a team of food technologists and product promotion experts set up Aitolikos-based company, and envisioned a way to share the unique lagoon products with the world, marrying tradition with innovation.
The company has built innovative facilities for the processing, packaging and promotion of offshore, lagoon and aquaculture products, both for Greece and the world as a whole. The company has proprietary standard facilities, equipped with the latest and most innovative machinery on a plot of 3,000 sq.m. in Aetoliko. Every product that leaves the factory is a separate ambassador who travels to every corner of the earth to initiate the consumer on a unique tasting journey. The roe processing and packaging facilities and other products are designed in full compliance with international food safety standards ISO 22000 – HACCP TÜV NORD. In addition there is Kosher and Halal certification for most of the products.
The vision is to create a range of premium quality roe as well as lagoon products that are appreciated by tasters around the world. The philosophy is to deliver high quality products with the purest, freshest and most natural ingredients, to provide high quality customer service, to be reliable, to value the employee and to respect the environment. The goal is to grow at a fast pace, staying true to vision and philosophy. The constant quest for excellence has led to the creation of a dedicated R&D department, whose main mission is not only to produce new products but also to improve and strengthen the existing product range.
